Web design for non-profits and charities

A non-profit website carries donors, volunteers, funders and the people your programs serve, usually on the same handful of pages. Synex Studio builds sites that make giving simple, keep program and governance information easy to find, and sit on hosting sized for the traffic an appeal can send.

ACNC Registered Charity Tick

The mark is placed to its style guide's colour and size rules and hyperlinked to your listing on the Charity Register.

Authority to fundraise

Most states and territories license charitable fundraising, so donation pages and public appeals go live once your authority covers them.

PCI DSS card handling

Card details are entered in the payment provider's own hosted fields, so the site is built to keep raw card numbers out of your database.

What non-profits need from a website

  1. One site, several different audiences

A donor deciding whether to give, a family looking for a service, and a grant assessor checking your governance all land on the same homepage. Writing and structuring for all of them, without burying any of them, is the hard part.

  2. Giving that is easy and compliant

There is no single national fundraising licence in Australia, and a donation page anyone can reach may be treated as an appeal in every state and territory, so the page has to name the fundraiser and state the purpose of the appeal. It also has to stay short enough that people actually finish it, and produce receipts carrying the fund name and ABN the ATO expects from a deductible gift recipient.

  3. Trust that survives a second look

Donors, funders and journalists cross-check what your site says against your ACNC Charity Register listing, your annual information statement and your ABN. Anything vague, out of date or unverifiable costs you the gift.

What we build for non-profits

Donation and regular giving pages

A fast, mobile-first giving page with one-off and regular options, secure payment handling, and the fund name and ABN your deductible gift recipient receipts have to carry.

Appeal and campaign templates

Reusable templates for end-of-financial-year appeals, giving days and emergency appeals, each with its own story, ask and tracking, so your team can launch the next one without calling a developer.

Accessible program and service pages

Program and service content written in plain English and built to WCAG 2.2 Level AA as the working benchmark, so eligibility, locations and referral steps stay clear on an old phone or a screen reader.

Volunteer and event sign-up

Custom WordPress forms for volunteer applications, event registrations and membership renewals, routed to the right person instead of a shared inbox nobody owns.

Annual report and governance hub

One tidy place for annual reports, financials, board and staff details, and your Registered Charity Tick linked through to your listing on the ACNC Charity Register.

Care plan for small teams

Australian hosting, updates, backups, security patching and small content changes handled for you, with training and written notes so a new coordinator can pick the site up.

Common questions

Will our website meet the Google Ad Grants website policy?

That policy is mostly build quality: a domain you control, the whole site served over HTTPS, substantial original content about your mission, working links, and pages that load quickly on a phone. We build to that standard as a matter of course, and the hosting, SSL and speed work are part of the project. Eligibility, the application and ongoing account management sit with Google and your team, not with us.

Do we need to show fundraising registration details on our donation page?

Australia has no single national fundraising licence, and because a donation page can be reached from anywhere, it may fall under the rules of several states and territories at once. We build the giving flow so the fundraiser's name, the purpose of the appeal, registration details and receipt wording are all editable by you as your registrations change. Which registrations you actually need is a question for your lawyer or the relevant state regulator, not for a web designer.

Can our staff and volunteers keep the site updated themselves?

We build on WordPress with a custom theme rather than a page builder, so editors get clear, labelled fields for appeals, programs, news and reports and cannot accidentally break a layout. Handover includes training and written notes, which matters when the person who was trained moves on. If something still needs a developer, our care plan covers small changes.
